How To Install Sm Bus Controller Windows Xp

  • #1
I wiped my hard drive then was able to reload Windows XP. I have been able to load all drivers requied as indicated in Device Manager but "Other Devices/ SM Bus Controller is still flagged as yellow?! in Device Manager.

Acer Aspire 5532 - the mfg only supports Vista and Windows 7 - and I could not definatively located on AMD site.

This is an older laptop (see details below) but I am sure someone has created this driver so I can manually install it. Please help me locate the driver to get the SM Bus Controller working.

From the control Panel I was able to pull this info from the "Details" tab
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4385&SUBSYS_028D1025&REV_3C\3&2411E6FE&0&A0
---------------------------
Note: I used driver identifier and it told me this:

SM Bus controller is part of the chipset drivers. If the laptop manufacturer doesn't have drivers then try ATI. If not there then you're out of luck.

The "out of luck" comment may be true, but pushing this as deep as I can.
I went to Acer website, no help as they do not offer Windows Xp support.

Below is a link to the ATI/AMD site where they have the update for my ATI Radeon HD3200 Graphics. My question, I have installed this and it got my VGA controller working, maybe the SM Bus Controller was downloaded and I need to manually point to it to install in Device Manager, just do not know if it was included in there and where to look/point to if it is.

So, is this "AMD Catalyst™ Display Driver" what you are refering to as the Chipset drivers?

Here is the page that solved my SM Bus Controller device driver problem, look in the "Optional Downloads" tab for AMD Chipset drivers, 92mb
